Becoming a Successful Student, a Successful Parent, and a Successful Person

It all started with a YWCA open house on campus at Charlotte High School.

"If I had any trouble with a class, my case manager showed me how to get help. When I got behind, she made sure that I found a way to come in on Saturdays to catch up," Lissa says.

"The parenting classes were great.  I was totally naive and I needed the advice and guidance. I  learned so much about what it took to be a good mother. I also learned how to create a budget to be sure that my daughter has what she needs."

Next for Lissa is college - with her case manager’s help, she was accepted at MCC and was able to apply for financial aid to be able to take classes in the fall. She hopes to enroll in the nursing program.
“When I was little, I had surgery to correct my cleft palate," she says.  "I know how much that meant to me. I want to be able to help others someday.”
