“I knew I had to make a change.”

These words led Amy, pictured above on the left with YWCA counselor Viola, on the path to recovery two years ago. Today, she is a resident in the Steppingstone Supportive Living program.

Before entering the program “I thought the YWCA was just for battered or homeless women – women unlike me, I thought,” she says, “I never thought I would need the YWCA. But here I am. And now, after living here, it’s amazing the level of care I have seen and the stories I have heard."

But recovery isn’t easy. Of the many challenges, Amy says, “I call it ‘bumping my head.’ Sometimes I had to do that, to feel the repercussions of my actions, in order to learn.”
