Who is Alliance Media?
Alliance Media is the name chosen by ten fourth-year New Media students at the Rochester Institute of Technology to represent their project team. Their project? Updating and revising marketing materials for the YWCA of Rochester & Monroe County.
The team worked on the YWCA's website and printed materials for the Flamingo Fling and the Annual Golf Tournament, which included advertising brochures and program books. Project work spanned over six months, which is equivalent to two quarters of the students' school year.
The advisor for the team was Dr. Twyla J. Cummings, PhD, a professor in the School of Print Media within the College of Imaging Arts & Sciences at RIT. The New Media disciplines span two colleges (CIAS and the Golisano College of Computing & Information Sciences) and three schools (SPM, School of Design, and the Information Technology Department) within these colleges. Students from all three New Media disciplines, which include Publishing, Design, and Information Technology (IT), made up the project team.
The YWCA team was drawn from a pool of over eighty students (representing nine project teams) who were enrolled in the New Media Team Project class. This class is the students' senior project, and allows them to work with not-for-profit clients on a voluntary basis. Along with the design work and client deliverables, the students were responsible for tracking their hours, creating and holding to a budget and project schedule, and giving status presentations to the class and to their client.
